#DetroitHorror: Remains of 63 babies found in funeral home
On Friday, Detroit Police made a ghastly discovery when they found the remains of over 60 infants and fetuses stashed in a funeral home in the city. The "deeply disturbing" discovery comes a week after the remains of 10 fetuses, an infant, and the cremated ashes of four people were found stashed away in the false ceiling of another funeral home. Here's more.
Details of the ghastly discovery in Detroit
The discovery was made at the Perry Funeral Home, which offers cremation and burial services. At the funeral home, police found 36 unrefrigerated boxes containing around 36 sets of remains, while another 27 sets of remains were recovered from freezers. Currently, investigators are working to establish the ages and identities of those found stashed away. The funeral home has refused to comment.
The discovery left the Detroit Police Chief shocked
"This is deeply disturbing. I have never seen anything like this in my 41 and half years (on the force), ever," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig, shocked by the findings at the Perry Funeral Home.
Earlier, police found remains in another funeral home
Last week, based on an anonymous tip, Detroit Police stormed the now defunct Cantrell Funeral Home to find the remains of 11 infants and fetuses stashed away inside a cardboard box and a coffin in a false ceiling. Subsequently, further investigations led police to the Perry Funeral Home. As of now, it is unclear whether the two cases are connected. Further investigations are underway.
A lawsuit has been filed against the Perry Funeral Home
Meanwhile, a lawsuit has been filed against the Perry Funeral Home alleging that it stored remains of stillborn and live birth babies for years without the knowledge of parents. The lawsuit was filed by the parents of a girl who passed away hours after being born in 2014. Reportedly, the Perry Funeral Home stored the girl's remains at a school morgue for three years, while claiming that a burial had taken place.
