Blast in Indonesia fireworks factory kills 23, injures 40
A blast at a fireworks factory near Jakarta has left at least 23 dead and over 40 injured. The mishap happened at around 9am (local time). According to witnesses, there were two major blasts. The explosion sparked a fire in an industrial complex in Tangerang. Parts of the building collapsed and vehicles nearby burnt. Firefighters were seen fighting the blaze even after hours.
'Victims are completely unrecognizable, totally burnt'
According to a local official, all the victims are workers at the factory which has been operating since just 1.5 months. It has a total of 103 workers. "Those who died are completely unrecognizable, totally burnt," said a witness. "We are still evacuating victims, more 10 than people died but the exact number is still being confirmed," said Harry Kurniawan, Tangerang police chief.
