Couple kept breaking-up, so they handcuffed themselves for three months
Some people give each other time and space to heal in a relationship, some cling even closer. A Ukrainian couple has gone to extreme lengths in an ultimate test of love as they have handcuffed themselves for three months. The couple said that they grew tired of fighting, breaking-up, and mending the relationship time and again. So, they decided to do something radical, albeit rather unusual.
The couple is documenting their journey on social media
Alexandr Kudlay, 33, is an online car salesman and Viktoria Pustovitova, 28, a beautician. The couple started their experiment on Valentine's Day and is documenting it on social media. Their antics have helped them amass thousands of followers on Instagram. "In terms of physical comfort, with every day passing, we are getting used to it more and more. It gets easier," Kudlay told Reuters.
The Eureka moment was during a fight
Kudlay talked about breaking up with Pustovitova frequently. "We used to break up once or twice a week," he said. During one of the fights, Pustovitova said she wanted to part ways, to which he replied: "Then I will attach you to myself." That's when he got the idea of handcuffing themselves for three months. The experiment followed!
She refused the idea at first
Pustovitova junked his idea at first but later thought of it as interesting. She hopes that it brings new, bright emotions to her life. "I decided it will be an interesting experience for me, that it will bring into my life new bright emotions which I did not experience before. I love him, so I came to a decision to do it," she said.
The challenge was being supervised
The handcuff experience was supervised by Vitaly Zorin from Ukraine's national register of records. Zorin had to verify the couple's mental health before the handcuffing. "The palms of the couple in love are just a couple of centimeters apart," he said. "We are going for a record. There is a chain on us, and all the links are welded (sic)," Kudlay said.
People are curious about toilet and shower routine
As the couple is documenting their life on Instagram, people are sort of in-between three emotions — happy, skeptical, and curious. The most asked question on the couple's Instagram though is how they go to the toilet. Their answer: The other just waits outside with their hand inside the bathroom. For showering too, they just take turns to quickly refresh.
