Chinese restaurant offers discounts based on bra sizes!
In a bizarre move, a Chinese restaurant has announced a cringe-worthy promotion: discounts depending on bra size. The Trendy Shrimp restaurant at a mall in Hangzhou city put up posters announcing their scheme: bigger the breasts, bigger the discounts. "The whole city is looking for BREASTS," a slogan announced. Thankfully, it didn't take long for locals to complain.
Is it justified if it's a good 'sales strategy'?
Residents complained about the "vulgar advertising" that was "discriminatory towards women". It is noteworthy the posters showed a line of women in their underwear. However, the restaurant doesn't regret it. According to Trendy Shrimp general manager Lan Shenggang, "Once the promotion started, customer numbers rose by about 20%." Women could talk to waitresses and avoid male staff "to avoid embarrassment", Shenggang added.
Such weird schemes aren't new in China
This isn't the first time Chinese restaurants have adopted looks-based marketing schemes. In 2015, an eatery in Zhengzhou announced free meals to good-looking guests; a team of cosmetic surgeons judged "winners". In 2014, a Chongqing establishment decided to offer discounts to obese men and thin women. Men above 140kg could eat for free, but women needed to be less than 34.5kg for the same.
