72-year-old Chinese pole dancer breaks barriers, inspires all
Some inspirational people have often proved that age is just a number. Another beautiful example of this is a 72-year-old woman in China who is a pole dancer. Meet Dai Dali, whose video showcasing her pole dancing skills has taken the Internet by a storm. Being the oldest pole dancer in China, Dai has become an inspiration for many. Here's her story.
Dai was 65 when she started learning pole dancing
If you think Dai must have started learning the art of pole dancing at a young age of 19 or so, then you are in for another surprise. Dai found her love for pole dancing when she was 65. In 2005, after Dai quit her job at a bookstore, she started looking for ways to kill boredom. Initially, she tried folk dances.
Dai struggled due to lack of strength initially
Thereafter, when Dai first stepped foot into the pole dancing classroom, she fell in love with it. However, Dai did have her share of struggle here. Taking pole dancing classes at the age of 65, Dai suffered bruises and pain. In the video, she also says, "Scars left on me for over a week. I am not a fast learner because I lack strength."
Dai finds pole dancing like a stretching bird in sky
Dai did admit that the sport is tough for even young learners. It is all about strength and beauty. She said her family and friends are always concerned about her, but she knows she can do it. She no longer finds the sport dangerous. In fact, she said she found it beautiful, "like a stretching bird, flying in the sky".
Dai has received many accolades for her sport
Dai's grace and elegance with her leg-balancing routines, acrobatic acts had received jaw-dropping reactions from the audience at China's Got Talent in 2012. Her association with the dance form has got her many accolades, which she said encouraged her to continue with the sport. "Learning pole dancing is not my purpose but my goal. It's what a person lives for," she said.
