President is missing: Bill Clinton co-authoring book with James Patterson
Bill Clinton might have missed out on the opportunity to become America's first "first gentleman", but he is set to make a debut in the world of suspense thriller fiction. In a recent announcement, he revealed that he is co-authoring a novel titled "The President is Missing" with his golfing buddy and best selling crime novelist, James Patterson, to be published in June 2018.
US Presidents and books
It is customary for most Presidents to pen memoirs during their terms. Moreover, most of the Presidential writings have revolved around personal or academic topics and not fiction. Prior to Clinton, former President Jimmy Carter published a historical novel in 2003 titled, "The Hornet's Nest".
Know the authors
James Patterson is famous for works including 'Along Came a Spider' and the 'Alex Cross' series, based on a fictional psychologist. Many of his works have been adapted into television shows and films. While Clinton is an avid reader of thrillers, this is his first time writing one. He had penned a memoir titled "My life" which in 2004 became a global bestseller.
What do we know about the book?
The book is written around a sitting president and would draw on Clinton's first hand experiences in the Oval office. The novel has further been termed, "unique amalgam of intrigue, suspense and behind-the-scenes global drama from the highest corridors of power." The book has also been termed a rare combination of suspense and an inside look into the President's life, by co-author Patterson.
Who are the publishers?
The book is planned on being jointly published by Clinton's publisher Alfred A Knopf along with Patterson's publisher Little, Brown and Co. in the US, marking an unusual collaboration between competitors. Publishing rights in the UK are with Penguin Random House.
