Pakistani singer-actor shot-dead as she refused to return to husband
In yet another incident of violence against female artistes in Pakistan, Reshma, a popular Pashto actress and singer, was shot dead by her husband in her brother's home. According to preliminary investigation, the crime was a fallout of a domestic dispute, police said. Reshma was the suspect's fourth wife and had been living with her brother in Hakimabad of Nowshera.
Husband had just come back from abroad
According to the FIR, Faida Khan, who was working abroad, had recently returned to Pakistan. He wanted Reshma to return home with him and was trying to convince her. When she refused, he got angry. He then entered Reshma's brother Obaidullah's house with an accomplice and opened fire at her. Both of them managed to flee before they could be nabbed.
15 female artistes murdered in Pakistan this year
Reshma was known for her popular Pashto songs. She had also appeared in the famous Pakistani drama 'Zhobal Goluna.' This was the 15th reported case of violence on female artistes in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year. In February, Sunbul, a stage actress, was shot dead by three men at her Maltoon Town home when she refused to accompany them to a private function.
Pregnant singer shot dead on stage for refusing to stand
In April, a pregnant Pakistani singer, Samina Samoon, was shot dead while she was singing at an event in Sindh. She was allegedly killed as she had refused an attendee's request to stand and sing. Samina's husband demanded the FIR mention double murder for their unborn child. There was an outcry after artistes claimed that instead of the accused, police had arrested the musicians at the scene instead.
