Reports: Osama bin Laden's grandson killed in airstrike
According to some reports, al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden's 12-year old grandson Osama bin Hamza bin Laden was reportedly killed in an airstrike near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border around June-July 2017. The information came to light in a leaked letter penned by the boy's father Hamza bin Laden, announcing his demise. However, the letter did not elaborate on the cause of death. Here's more.
What did the letter state?
"The grandson of the martyr, our son Osama...has ascended to the highest paradise of heaven in the month of Dhu al-Qidah. Tragedies that we meet...such as these only make us stronger and more steadfast," Hamza bin Laden has written in the letter.
What do the reports indicate?
Terror monitor, an online platform which closely watches actions of jehadi groups tweeted that a letter mourning Osama's grandson was being circulated in Afghanistan. The New Arab, a news website, reported that the boy had died sometime last year as per the letter. Arab 21, an Arabic news website reported that he died at an al Qaeda camp near Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
