Afghanistan: 3 beheaded, school torched, IS hand suspected
In what is suspected to be an Islamic State attack, a boys' school was torched and three men beheaded in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province on Saturday. A spokesperson revealed the administration office and the school's library were completely burnt. Till now no group has taken responsibility for the gruesome attack. Notably, IS has established a stronghold in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar.
IS beheads people for cooperating with government
Detailing the attack, Spokesperson Mohammad Asif Shinwari said, "They brutally beheaded three attendants and set fire to the school building." Last month, Islamic State issued warnings of attacks in Nangarhar. The provincial governor condemned the attack and blamed the banned terror group for the incident. IS is infamous for carrying out beheadings of people they think 'cooperate' with the government.
In Afghanistan, violence has robbed kids of their childhood
In April this year, calculated attacks burnt two schools in eastern Afghanistan. A UNICEF report highlighted "Nearly half of the children aged between 7 and 17 years old — 3.7 million — in Afghanistan are missing out on school." About 2.1 million are pushed to child labor, the report suggested. This latest attack further proves children are the worst hit in war-torn Afghanistan.
