Girl wins $1million in lottery; she won a car earlier
A nine-year-old Indian girl, Eliza M., a Dubai resident has won a jackpot worth Rs. 6.9 crore in the Dubai Duty Free's Millennium Millionaire promotion at the Dubai International Airport yesterday. Another Indian national based out of Dubai, 23-year-old Mohammad Haneef Adam, also won an Indian Scout Bobber. Notably, Eliza had won a McLaren sports car in the same draw six years ago.
Started in 1999, capturing travelers' attention since then
According to the official website, the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire promotion was launched in June'99 and since then it has captured travelers worldwide by offering "5,000 ticket holders the chance to win a staggering $1mn." The draw takes place at the Dubai Duty Free shopping complex in every 2-3 weeks interval. Eliza's father, M. has been regularly participating in the draw since 2004.
Father bought ticket online with no. 0333 under daughter's name
M., who believes that 9 is his lucky number, bought a ticket online under his daughter's name with no. 0333. "I have been making plans since Series 43 but since luck had yet to come I said to myself to continue my life as it is, and then this thing happened today. Finally, my perseverance has paid off," he told Khaleej Times.
7 people have won the promotion twice, states official website
The website states, "Within a 20-year lifespan of the Millennium Millionaire, there have been 7 winners who doubled the luck and won the promotion twice." Among those seven lucky people is Eliza, who is the 298th winner of the jackpot and 140th Indian national.
Motorbike winner Adam 'can't wait to lay hands on it'
Meanwhile, the other Indian national, Adam, a Dubai resident for 20 years now, has won an Indian Scout Bobber in the same series with ticket No. 0671. "I am very grateful to Dubai Duty Free for coming up with this promotion. I am thrilled to have won such a beautiful motorbike and I can't wait to get my hands on this," he said.
