PM Modi likely to attend Russia's Victory Day parade

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Russia on May 9 for the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Russian news agency TASS reported.
Citing a military source, the report said there was a "high probability" of PM Modi attending the parade at Moscow's Red Square.
The source added that talks are on for the participation of a ceremonial unit of the Indian armed forces in the event.

The Indian armed forces' ceremonial unit is expected to reach Russia at least a month ahead of the parade for rehearsals.
The issues related to the delivery of Indian military personnel are being worked out, according to TASS.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has confirmed that many countries have already confirmed their participation in the Moscow events on May 9.

Russia extends invitation to various foreign leaders
Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to the Russian President, said foreign leaders from other countries, not just from the CIS, will be invited.
He said Russia would welcome all foreign guests who recognize the significance of Victory Day.
The event is viewed as an opportunity for world leaders to come together and commemorate a momentous occasion in history.

PM Modi's visit comes at a time when US and Russian officials are engaged in talks to end the conflict in Ukraine. The first round of talks was held in Riyadh earlier this month.
In previous meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, PM Modi has pushed for peace.
Last October, he visited Russia for the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan under Russia's chairmanship.
