4 dead, dozens injured in mass shooting in Alabama, US
At least four people were killed and dozens injured in a mass shooting that took place on Saturday night in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. The incident occurred just after 11:00pm local time in the Five Points South area, a popular entertainment district. Upon arrival at the scene, police found two men and a woman unresponsive due to gunshot wounds; all three were pronounced dead on site. A fourth victim later succumbed to their injuries at a nearby hospital.
Investigation underway, no suspects in custody
Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated that they believe multiple shooters were involved in the incident. "We believe that multiple shooters fired multiple shots on a group of people," he said. However, as of early Sunday, no suspects had been taken into custody. The victims were found in open areas such as sidewalks or streets, and detectives are currently investigating whether the shooters approached their victims on foot or from a vehicle.
Dozens injured, 4 in critical condition
In addition to the four fatalities, "dozens" of other gunshot victims were identified in the area. Some arrived at local hospitals for treatment. "We have dozens of gunshot victims from this area," Fitzgerald confirmed. He also noted that at least four of these victims are in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, while others have sustained various degrees of harm.
