The shooting occurred at a Walmart store in Thornton, a city located near Denver, Colorado. According to police officers, they received the first call regarding the shooting at 6:30 pm (local time). The gunshots had reportedly ceased by the time they arrived at the scene.
What do we know from police reports on the incident?
Police personnel who first arrived at the scene indicated that "multiple parties were down." An hour after issuing the first alert, they conveyed that the gunfire had ended and confirmed that 2 people were dead and 1 had been hospitalized. "At this time this is NOT an active shooter. Active crime scene. We will update as info becomes available," stated the latest update.
Eyewitnesses recount the horror
According to local media reports, a woman's whose son was inside the store during the shooting told her that he heard at least thirty gunshots being fired. Aaron Stevens, a Thornton resident who was also present heard gunshots and ricocheting bullets. "The employees started screaming and the customers started screaming," he states while recalling what happened before he ran out of the store.
