Yuzvendra Chahal becomes highest wicket-taker for RR in IPL: Stats
Veteran Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has become the highest wicket-taker for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chahal reached this mark with his first scalp in the Eliminator of IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Ahmedabad. The leg-spinner broke the tie with Siddharth Trivedi to go to the top. Here we decode his stats in RR colors.
Chahal overtakes Trivedi
As mentioned, Chahal has overtaken former pacer Trivedi to become RR's highest wicket-taker in IPL history. Trivedi, who served the Royals from 2008 to 2013, took 65 IPL wickets from 76 matches at 29.29 for RR. Playing his 45th game for RR, Chahal has now raced to 66 scalps as his economy is around 8.3. The tally includes a fifer and four four-wicket hauls.
Purple Cap holder in IPL 2022
Chahal was acquired by RR at the IPL 2022 mega auction. He bagged the Purple Cap in his first season for them (27 wickets at 19.51). Notably, RR finished as the runners-up that season, losing the final to Gujarat Titans. Chahal also fired for them last season, having snapped up 21 scalps at 20.57. He took the most wickets for RR.
His numbers in the ongoing season
Chahal has also made the ball talk in the ongoing season. He is again RR's leading wicket-taker, having raced to 18 wickets across 15 matches. His economy rate is around 9.4. Earlier this season, Chahal surpassed the legendary Shane Warne to become RR's most successful spinner in the IPL Warne took 57 wickets from 55 games for RR at an average of 25.38.
Chahal's journey in IPL
Chahal started his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians before moving to RCB and RR. Chahal was a mainstay spinner for RCB between 2014 and 2021. He is still the only bowler with over 100 IPL wickets for them. The leg-spinner, who now plays for RR, has been a formidable force in the middle overs, where he can restrict the flow of runs.
Most wickets for RCB
As mentioned, Chahal served RCB for eight seasons and returned with 139 wickets in 113 games, conceding runs at 7.58. No other bowler has taken 100 or more IPL wickets for the franchise. Notably, the leggie went wicketless in his only outing for MI in the 2013 season. As RCB released Chahal after the 2021 event, IPL 2022 marked Chahal's debut for RR.
Highest wicket-taker in IPL history
Earlier this season, Chahal became the first bowler to complete 200 IPL wickets. Last year, he displaced Dwayne Bravo (183) at the summit of the wickets tally. Playing his 159th game, the RR star has now raced to 205 wickets. His average and economy rate are around 22 and 7.8, respectively (4W: 6, 5W: 1). The tally includes a hat-trick as well.
