Yuzvendra Chahal has become the most successful spinner for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran leg-spinner reached this landmark in Match 24 of the IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Chahal surpasses Shane Warne
Chahal surpassed the legendary Shane Warne to become RR's most successful spinner in the IPL. Warne, who led RR to the title in the inaugural IPL edition (2008), took 57 wickets from 55 games at an average of 25.38. Chahal now has 58 scalps for the Royals in the cash-rich league. He attained this feat in his 36th match for RR.
Chahal is only behind these names
Overall, only Siddharth Trivedi (65) and Shane Watson (61) are ahead of Chahal in terms of IPL wickets for RR. In addition, Chahal and Warne are the only other bowlers with over 50 wickets in this regard.
Most wickets in IPL; successful stint with RCB
Chahal, who made his debut in 2013, is the leading wicket-taker in the IPL. He remains the only bowler with over 190 IPL wickets. The leg-spinner started his journey with Mumbai Indians before moving to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and RR. Chahal was a mainstay spinner for RCB between 2014 and 2021. He is still the only bowler with over 100 IPL wickets for them.
Purple Cap holder in IPL 2022
Chahal was acquired by RR at the IPL 2022 mega auction. He bagged the Purple Cap in his first season for them (27 wickets at 19.51). Notably, RR finished as the runners-up that season, losing the final to GT. Chahal also fired for them last season, having snapped up 21 scalps at 20.57. He took the most wickets for RR.
