List of milestones Yuzvendra Chahal accomplished in IPL 2024
Rajasthan Royals' campaign in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) ended in the second Qualifier. They bowed out after losing the knock-out clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal enjoyed an impressive campaign though his form dipped toward the latter stage of the competition. He also accomplished some major milestones this season. Here are the records he scripted in IPL 2024.
His numbers in IPL 2024
Chahal made the ball talk in IPL 2024. He finished as RR's second-highest wicket-taker, having registered 18 wickets across 16 matches. His economy rate of 9.59 was a tad on the higher side. Only Avesh Khan (19) took more wickets for the franchise. Chahal has now taken at least 18 wickets in all of his three seasons with the Royals.
First bowler to claim 200 IPL wickets
Earlier this season, Chahal became the first bowler to complete 200 IPL wickets. Last year, he displaced Dwayne Bravo (183) at the summit of the wickets tally. Having played 160 games, the RR star has now raced to 205 wickets. His average and economy rate are 22.44 and 7.84, respectively (4W: 6, 5W: 1). The tally includes a hat-trick as well.
Highest wicket-taker for RR
During the Eliminator, Chahal overtook former pacer Siddharth Trivedi to become RR's highest wicket-taker in IPL history. Trivedi, who served the Royals from 2008 to 2013, took 65 IPL for RR. Having played 46 matches for the franchise, Chahal has now raced to 66 scalps as his economy is 8.41. The tally includes a fifer and four four-wicket hauls.
Only bowler with this feat
Chahal is now the only bowler to be the highest wicket-taker of two different IPL franchises (Minimum: 50 wickets for both teams). The veteran leg-spinner served Royal Challengers Bengaluru for eight seasons and returned with 139 wickets in 113 games, conceding runs at 7.58. No other bowler has taken 100 or more IPL wickets for the franchise.
350 scalps in T20 cricket
During the game against Delhi Capitals, Chahal became the first Indian to touch the 350-wicket mark in T20 cricket. He now owns 354 wickets across 305 matches with his economy being 7.70. Chahal has taken 96 wickets at 25.09 for India in T20 Internationals. He is their leading wicket-taker in the format, having played 80 games.
Some unwanted records for Chahal
Chahal bagged some unwanted records in the second Qualifier against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The leggie has now conceded the most sixes in IPL (224). He went past Piyush Chawla (222) in this regard. The 33-year-old was hit for 30 sixes in IPL 2024. Only RCB's Mohammed Siraj has been smashed for more maximums in an IPL season (31 in 2022).
