Want to give India couple of Yuvraj(s): Yograj to NewsBytes
Yograj Singh, the father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, has been roped in as the coach of DAV College, Chandigarh. Following his appointment, he analyzed the facilities on Monday, which was his first day as the coach. Speaking exclusively to NewsBytes, Yograj talked about his new role, besides speaking about the cricket culture in Chandigarh as a whole. Here is more.
Yograj wants to use his talent for Chandigarh
Speaking about the opening day, Yograj said that it was a normal training session as he wanted to see how fit were the boys, as he wants to re-develop Chandigarh cricket. "Since they wanted me back as a coach, I felt I should give my services to Chandigarh as it has received the BCCI affiliation after four decades," said Yograj.
DAV College boys need six months to get fit
Speaking further about the fitness of the boys at the DAV College, Yograj said they are just 30% fit as of now. However, he said that within six months to a year, the boys would be fit enough and it is then he could scout a potential talent for India. He is looking to train the boys the same way he did with Yuvraj.
Yograj wants to do something special for Chandigarh
"Everybody is so happy and it is so touching. All the boys came up to me and thanked me for coming back to DAV and to Chandigarh cricket. I am very happy that I am able to do something for Chandigarh cricket," added Yograj.
Yograj immensely happy with the young talent
Talking about the young players he came across on Day 1, Yograj was fairly impressed with them. He said proper guidance would really help them become even better cricketers. "I think no one guided them that fitness is a very important factor. It is the very message I gave them and they seem to be very enthusiastic about it," continued Yograj.
Want to develop a couple of more Yuvi(s): Yograj
"If I'm able to live long, I would like to give a couple of more Yuvraj(s) to Indian and Chandigarh cricket. I would be extremely happy and grateful to God if I am able to do that, which I would try my best," said Yograj.
Yograj backs Chandigarh to be a force in five years
As Chandigarh begins to nurture itself as a team in, Yograj said that considering the talent and other aspects, Chandigarh should be a force in Indian cricket in the next five years. "If everything goes very well, as well as fair and square, I think we [Chandigarh] should be able to do very well in the coming five years," he reckoned.
Chandigarh to have good training facilities within a year: Yograj
Speaking on the current training facilities in Chandigarh, Yograj backed Sector 16 Stadium and the Punjab University for their good infrastructure. He also thanked the BCCI for investing quite some money on developing training facilities in Chandigarh. "With the amount of money coming in, and with the infrastructure at the moment, in the coming one-year time I feel we can really build-up," he asserted.
Yograj backs Yuvraj to coach Chandigarh in the future
When asked about Yuvraj and his future, Yograj said that a few days back, he had a session with some young players in Chandigarh, along with coach VRV Singh. He added that Yuvraj has offers for coaching in Chandigarh and would personally love to see him give something to Chandigarh cricket, which has given so much to him.
Yograj backs Ravi Shastri's retention as India head coach
On being asked about Ravi Shastri's second stint as India's head coach, Yograj was fairly impressed with the Kapil Dev-led CAC's decision. He also backed Shastri's impressive performance so far, barring the ICC World Cup 2019 semis loss. "Ravi has been doing very well for Indian cricket and he will live up to it," reckoned Yograj.
"Vikram Rathour is technically very sound"
"Vikram Rathour is technically very sound and he knows his job. He has been with the PCA for quite some time now and I've always rated him as a very good batsman. I'm sure he will do very well as India's batting coach," concluded Yograj.
