'Batting alongside Rohit Sharma an incredible experience': Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal, an emerging talent across formats, has credited his captain Rohit Sharma for significantly contributing to his professional development. The young cricketer described batting alongside Sharma as an "incredible experience" that has offered him valuable insights into the game. Since making his debut against the West Indies last year, Jaiswal and Sharma have formed a formidable opening partnership with several century stands in their 16 Test innings together.
Jaiswal highlights Sharma's game control and wicket understanding
Jaiswal has expressed admiration for Sharma's ability to control the game and his understanding of the wicket. He believes that these are areas where young players can learn a lot from the seasoned cricketer. "You can learn from him things like adjusting your batting to seaming or turning tracks or change your batting when a wicket or two fall," stated Jaiswal on the eve of 2024 Duleep Trophy.
An average of 61.25 as an opening pair
Jaiswal and Sharma have opened together in 16 Test innings for India. As per ESPNcricinfo, they have racked up 980 runs as a pair at a staggering average of 61.25. The tally includes three centuries and as many half-centuries.
Jaiswal reflects on his first year in international cricket
Jaiswal also reflected on his growth and development as a player as he completes a year in international cricket. The left-handed batter believes that he has gained a deeper understanding of his game. "Now, I can see a lot of scenarios and shift my game (accordingly) for the team and read the situations," he added.
An incredible start to international cricket
Jaiswal made waves with a record-breaking 171-run knock on his Test debut last year, against the West Indies. He then broke several records in the five-match Test series against England at home. The young opener was adjudged the Player of the Series. Jaiswal became the second Indian batter to slam 700 runs in a bilateral Test series, joining Sunil Gavaskar. The left-handed batter has also proven his mettle in T20I cricket.
