Yashasvi Jaiswal bounces back with his second IPL ton: Stats
Rajasthan Royals batter Yashasvi Jaiswal regained his Midas touch with an incredible century in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). He smashed a match-winning ton in Match 38 against Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Jaiswal's magnificent ton helped the Royals chase down 180. Notably, each of his two IPL tons have come against the five-time champions. Here are the stats.
Jaiswal finally comes out of his shell
Jaiswal, who was searching his rhythm at the start, came out with a positive mindset. Although the left-hander stumbled while facing the rapid Kyle Coetzee, his approach got him through. Jaiswal first added 74 runs alongside Buttler and then finished a one-sided run-chase with Samson. He slammed a 60-ball 104*, a knock studded with 9 fours and 7 sixes.
Multiple IPL tons against MI
As mentioned, Jaiswal slammed his second century against MI in the IPL. He has become only the second player with multiple IPL tons against the five-time champions. Veteran batter KL Rahul remains the only other batter to have done this. He owns three tons against the five-time champions. Jaiswal now has over 250 runs from seven games against MI in the IPL.
Jaiswal slammed his maiden IPL ton last year
Jaiswal had a breakthrough IPL season in 2023, where he slammed 625 runs at 48.08. The left-handed batter brought up his maiden IPL century in Match 42 against the MI at the Wankhede Stadium. Jaiswal became the seventh player to have slammed an IPL century for RR. At 21 years and 123 days, he became RR's youngest centurion in the IPL.
Two IPL tons before turning 23
Jaiswal recorded his second century in the IPL, aged 22 years and 116 days. As per Cricbuzz, the dashing left-hander has become the first-ever player to score two centuries in the IPL before turning 23.
A look at his IPL career
Jaiswal, who featured in the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup for India, was bought by RR ahead of IPL 2020. He showed signs of brilliance in his first three IPL seasons (2020, 2021, and 2022) but couldn't go all out. Jaiswal then broke a flurry of records by scoring over 600 runs last year. He has now raced to 1,397 IPL runs at 32.49.
Jaiswal makes a comeback
Jaiswal was in a downward spiral in terms of batting ahead of the MI game. He had scored just 121 runs from seven games before hitting what was a comeback ton. This remains his only fifty-plus score so far.
