Five controversial facts about WWE's famous wrestlers
With success comes money and fame, and for some, it leads to recklessness and they even find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Several WWE stars have faced similar fates, when their success got to their heads and made them act in ways they would like to forget now. Here we bring to you controversial facts about five WWE icons.
The Heartbreak Kid had his days of excess and attitude
The talent of Shawn Michaels, inside the ring, was noticed from the early days of his wrestling career, and that made him dear to Vince McMahon. At his peak, Michaels was known as wrestling's premier prima donna due to his egotistical nature. To top it off, he was heavily into substance abuse and followed it up with reckless boozing and posing nude for Playgirl.
Hogan is far from the ultimate good guy he portraits
Wrestling owes a lot to Hulk Hogan, but he is definitely far from the 'eat your vitamins, say your prayers' image he portraits. Hogan's egotistical nature led to WCW's downfall, and he even destroyed TNA's prospects by making odd bookings. Hogan then went on racial slurs, was involved in a steroid scandal, had a leaked sex tape. Enough said?
JBL is simple deplorable, to put it frankly
He might've been a successful WWE champion, but JBL has been accused by many as the WWE's ultimate backstage bully. He, allegedly, sexually harassed young wrestlers inside the showers. Further, he bullied and mocked Mauro Ranallo for his mental health and depression issues. He even stole the passport of former ring announcer Justin Roberts to not let him fly with the company.
Ric Flair has had more than his share of fun
Flair's greatness in the wrestling industry can only be compared with his life of excesses outside the ring. Flair is well-known for his alcohol consumption, sexual escapades and lavish lifestyle. He also reportedly flashed his private parts to women inside an airplane, released a sexual contract wanting to take women "on rides on the Space mountain (a nickname he has for his privates)".
Wrestling's ultimate genius is also its ultimate thug
We couldn't simply do without talking about Vinny Mac, the man who made pro-wrestling into a global cultural phenomenon. McMahon bought off his competition, got involved in a steroid scandal which could've seen him land up in jail. He allegedly forced a former WWE employee to perform oral sex on him, cheated on his wife, and even snorted cocaine once in a while.
