Elimination Chamber 2019: Results and detailed analysis
While Royal Rumble is considered the beginning of road to WrestleMania, the Elimination Chamber is a major stop on the way. The 2019 version of the tournament concluded on Sunday and we witnessed a pretty interesting pay-per-view ahead of WrestleMania. The first-ever women's tag team champions of the modern era were also crowned at this event. Here are further details.
Buddy Murphy managed to retain his Cruiserweight title
This was one of the best matches of the night where Buddy Murphy defeated Akira Tozawa to retain his title. Both men being technically sound, the match saw some great wrestling and it never lost the momentum which was built up. However, the match deserved more time than it was allocated, but it must be said that it was great for an opening match.
An Elimination Chamber match decided the Women's tag-team champions
Sasha Banks and Bayley emerged victorious in tag-team match which means they will be defending their titles at WrestleMania. The match was quite impressive, but went slowly in the early stages, gaining momentum only after the first elimination happened. However, the ending was executed brilliantly by Banks, who made Deville tap-out despite being unable to perform the Banks Statement.
The Usos became the new SmackDown tag-team champions
Shane McMahon and The Miz failed to defend their SmackDown tag-team titles against The Usos. Usos proved to be too strong for Mac and Miz, but the match was definitely an entertainer. Miz looked devastated after the defeat and it can only be assumed that a feud will develop between the two teams in the coming days which might result in a WrestleMania encounter.
Bobby Lashley loses his Intercontinental Championship to Finn Balor
Finn Balor was booked to fight in a handicap match against Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush for the Intercontinental Championship. The match was poorly booked since Balor could have been given a major push if he pinned Lashley, but it was Rush who suffered the pinfall. Balor fought Brock Lesnar for the Universal title at Royal Rumble and should have been given another push.
Ronda Rousey defends her Raw Women's title successfully
Ronda Rousey was set to defend her Raw Women's title against Ruby Riott which she did within 1:30 minutes. But what happened beyond the match was exciting as Charlotte Flair, who was at ringside, and Rousey were both attacked by Becky Lynch after the match. This hyped up the WrestleMania match from which Lynch has been barred from participating.
Daniel Bryan defends his WWE Championship successfully
The event ended with another Elimination Chamber match in which Daniel Bryan was defending his WWE Championship title against Matt Hardy, Kofi Kingston, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, and Samoa Joe. The match was an intense affair as it proved to be a thrill-ride from beginning to end. Kofi Kingston was the star of the match, but Bryan retained his title.
