Wriddhiman Saha moves back to Bengal, will play across formats
Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha has returned to his state team Bengal to play across formats. Saha, who represented Tripura for two seasons, revealed that he will turn out for Bengal in the impending domestic season. Saha, in July 2022, parted ways with Bengal, a side which he represented since making his First-Class debut in 2007. Here are further details.
Excited to be back in Bengal
Saha announced the same during a press meet at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. "I am happy and excited to be back in Bengal. I am looking forward to playing and giving my best for the state. As of now, my plan is to play in all three formats for Bengal, and it will depend on how things go ahead in the season," he revealed.
Saha's fallout with CAB
As mentioned, Saha left Bengal to play for Tripura in July 2022. The 37-year-old obtained the No-Objection Certificate from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to join the side. Saha took the step following a public fallout with an official of the state association. During that phase, Saha, as reported, was informed by the team management that he won't be considered for Tests anymore.
Over 7,000 runs in First-Class cricket
Saha has had a stellar First-class career, having featured in 136 matches. He has racked up 7,013 runs at an average of 41.99. The tally includes 14 centuries and 43 half-centuries. It remains to be seen how he fares in his second Bengal stint.
Saha has played 40 Tests, 170 IPL matches
Saha represented India in 40 Tests, having played his last in December 2021. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored 1,353 runs, including three tons and six half-centuries. As a wicket-keeper, Saha has registered 92 catches and 12 stumpings. As per ESPNcricinfo, Saha is among the few players to have played in every IPL season, from 2008 to 2024. He played for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024.
