India's Aman Sehrawat has reached the semi-finals of the men's freestyle 57kg wrestling at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Sehrawat overcame Albania's Zelimkhan Abakarov 12-0, giving his opponent no time to launch a fight. It was a superb performance from India's only male wrestler at the 2024 Paris Games. Sehrawat was in complete control and has given himself a chance to fight for a medal.
Sehrawat defeated North Macedonia's Vladimir Egorov in R16
In the round of 16, 21-year-old Sehrawat defeated North Macedonia's Vladimir Egorov by technical superiority. A comfortable 10-0 win gave the Macedonian no chance. Sehrawat first executed a solid single leg takedown and then kept piling up the points. In the first period, he scored six technical points (2, 2, 1, 1). In the second period, he scored four technical points (2, 2).

What happened in the quarter-final bout?
A passivity was issued against Zelimkhan after 1.5 minutes into the bout. The Albanian failed to score in 30 seconds, handing Sehrawat a point. Sehrawat issued a takedown thereafter to extend his lead to 3-0. In the second round, a single leg takedown on Zelimkhan, stunned the Albanian grappler. Sehrawat turned him him over three times before winning 12-0 on technical superiority.
Sehrawat will go up against top-seeded Rei Higuchi
Sehrawat will go up against top-seeded Rei Higuchi of Japan in his semi-final bout. Higuchi overcame Alireza Sarlak of Iran in R16. In the quarter-final bout, the Japanese wrestler beat Darian Toi Cruz of Puerto Rico 12-2.
Bronze medal winner at 2022 Asian Games
Sehrawat has won several laurels in his short career so far. Young Sehrawat bagged the bronze medal in men's 57kg event at the 2022 Asian Games. He won the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Championships thereafter. He won five medals at the Grand Prix (G2, S2, B1). He won bronze at Yasar Dogu Tournament in 2022 and silver (Kolov & Nikola Petrov Tournament).
