Why does this story matter?
In what was deemed a massive blow, Victoria pulled out as hosts for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in July 2023. Former Premier of Victoria, Dan Andrews announced that Victoria would not host the Games due to tight budget costs. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) had a race against time thereafter. Glasgow has now entered the fray to host the multi-sporting event.
Birmingham hosted 2022 CWG
The 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham concluded in August. The Indian contingent, comprising nearly 200 athletes, participated in 16 sports at the event. India finished fourth in the overall tally, ranking behind Australia (178), England (176), and Canada (92).
