Pakistan's Hasan Ali takes his maiden four-fer in World Cup
Sri Lanka compiled 344/9 against Pakistan in match number eight of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama slammed scintillating tons for the Lankans, while Pakistan seamer Hasan Ali took four wickets despite being expensive. It was Hasan's maiden four-wicket haul in the World Cup. Here are the key stats.
Hasan shines with 4/71 in 10 overs
Senior pacer Hasan was the pick of Pakistan bowlers, who leaked runs aplenty. He took his first wicket in the form of Kusal Perera in his very first over. In his next spell, the Pakistan seamer dismissed Charith Asalanka for one. Hasan then got rid of the two centurions, Mendis and Sadeera. The Pakistan pacer took four wickets for 71 runs in 10 overs.
A last-moment replacement for Pakistan
Hasan, who made his ODI debut in 2016, hadn't been in the scheme of things before the ongoing World Cup. However, he became a first-choice seamer after Naseem Shah was ruled out due to an injury. Before the ongoing tournament, Hasan last played an ODI in June 2022. His last international appearance came in the second Test against New Zealand in January this year.
Hasan races to 97 wickets
Hasan is playing his second ODI World Cup. The right-arm seamer featured in the 2019 edition but had a disappointing run. In 62 ODIs, Hasan has raced to 97 wickets at an average of 29.55. Against SL, he took only his second career four-wicket haul. The tally includes four five-wicket hauls as well. Hasan owns 21 ODI wickets against SL at an incredible 12.95.
