Pant breaks silence on World Cup exclusion: Details here
Rishabh Pant showed his brilliance in the T20 format after guiding Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The southpaw struck a 36-ball 78* to power DC. With this win, DC have almost sealed their spot in play-offs. Pant revealed what was going on his mind during the gutsy knock.
In-form Pant missed out on World Cup selection
Pant is not a part of India's 15-member ICC World Cup 2019 squad, which was announced last week. Dinesh Karthik was preferred over him. Pant, who is enjoying a fine run in IPL, helped DC overcome RR in a high-scoring affair. Chasing 192 runs to win, Pant's heroics saw his side win with four balls to spare. He smashed six fours and four sixes.
Selection thought was running in my mind: Pant
"I am feeling lovely. To make your team win in an important match is a good feeling. I won't lie, the selection thought was running in my mind," Pant said post DC's win against the Royals.
IPL 12: Pant needs to continue in the same vein
Pant has amassed 336 runs in 11 matches for Delhi this season. The youngster will need to focus and keep up putting in the shifts. His first target should be to help DC do well and help them reach the knock-outs. Earlier, Gautam Gambhir had highlighted the same. Pant, who is on standby for the World Cup, will need to play more responsibly.
Pant didn't do anything substantial to prove his case
Pant has sealed his position in India's Test squad, which in itself is a big achievement. As far as white-ball cricket is concerned, he hasn't been able to deliver consistent performances. The selectors did give him a chance to showcase his talent in ODIs, but he failed against both West Indies and Australia. Pant is still inexperienced and selecting DK was a right call.
Pant is the future of Indian cricket
Having said that, Pant has the age on his side. He is definitely going to be India's number one choice across all three formats in the near future. At this moment, he should be working on his game and be patient.
