New Zealand vs England: Records that might get scripted
The ICC World Cup 2019 final is all set to take place on Sunday at Lord's. The two nations will be vying for their maiden World Cup trophy and there is a lot of action in store. In this cracking contest, there are several feats which would be achieved by players. Here we look at the records that can be scripted in the finale.
Root and Kane can surpass 600 runs in CWC 19
Joe Root (549 runs) and Kane Williamson (548 runs) need 51 and 52 respectively to become the fourth and fifth players to score 600-plus runs in CWC 19. The two could join Rohit Sharma, David Warner and Shakib Al Hasan to script the feat in CWC 19. Interestingly, before this World Cup, only Sachin Tendulkar and Matthew Hayden had achieved this feat.
Root can join Gooch with this special feat
Root has 751 career CWC runs. He needs 49 more to reach the figure of 800. Root could become the second ever England batsman to score 800-plus runs after Graham Gooch (897). Root, Williamson and Jonny Bairstow have two centuries each in CWC 19. They can join Mark Waugh (1996), Sourav Ganguly (2003) and Matthew Hayden (2007) to script three tons in an edition.
Boult can surpass Tahir with this feat
Trent Boult (39 wickets) needs two more scalps to surpass Imran Tahir's tally of 40 in World Cup history. He will become the first Kiwi to get past 40-plus World Cup wickets.
England trio in fray to script this record
If Jofra Archer (19) gets a fifer, then he will surpass Andrew Flintoff's World Cup tally of 23 scalps. Archer, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes are all in fray to take 20-plus scalps in a CWC edition. They will be the first England bowlers to achieve this mark. They can also join Mitchell Starc and Mustafizur Rahman to achieve the same in CWC 19.
Ross Taylor can script this special World Cup record
Ross Taylor (987) needs 13 runs to become only the second Kiwi batsman after Stephen Fleming (1,075) to score 1,000-plus career World Cup runs. He also needs 89 more to become the highest run-scorer for New Zealand, across the editions. Besides Ross, the likes of Martin Guptill (976) and Williamson (881) are also in fray to get past 1,000 World Cup runs.
These batsmen can script this record as well
Taylor (928), Williamson (918) and Root (903) can all surpass 1,000-plus runs in ODIs this year. Only four batsmen have achieved this feat. Root can equal Aaron Finch's tally of four ODI tons in 2019 as well.
