Here're records scripted by Rohit Sharma in this World Cup
India's swashbuckling opener Rohit Sharma came up with a prolific performance as he scored 140 against Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2019 on Sunday. While India won the match by 89 runs (D/L), in the process, Rohit broke a number of records, including achieving a few personal feats. In the same light, we present the records broken by him in this World Cup.
Fourth fastest to 24th ODI century
Rohit: Fourth Indian to score five consecutive 50+ ODI knocks
Rohit became the fourth Indian to slam five consecutive 50+ knocks in ODIs. His previous five innings read 95, 56, 122*, 57 and 140. Among the other Indians to achieve this feat are Sachin Tendulkar and Ajinkya Rahane, while Virat Kohli has done it twice.
Rohit scores second highest individual World Cup score against Pakistan
Rohit's 140 against Pakistan on Sunday was the second highest individual score against Pakistan in the World Cup. The best remains an unbeaten 143 by Australia's Andrew Symonds that came in 2003 at Johannesburg. He is also the third player who has scored a century in an India-Pakistan World Cup clash, after Saeed Anwar (101 in 2003) and Kohli (107 in 2015).
Rohit has joint-most ODI tons among overseas players in UK
Rohit, with his yesterday's knock, has now the joint-most number of ODI tons among overseas players in the United Kingdom (UK). He now holds the record along with Sir Vivian Richards and Shikhar Dhawan, who too have scored four ODI centuries, playing in the UK.
Rohit scripts a few records
Rohit has now become the quickest batsman to score 1,000 ODI runs in the UK, in just 18 innings. He eclipsed Dhawan's record (19). He also scored the fastest half-century by a player in an Indo-Pak World Cup clash. His 85-ball century on Sunday was the joint-second fastest by an Indian in the World Cup, after Virat Kohli's 83-ball century against Bangladesh in 2011.
Rohit's new found love for scoring against Pakistan
Rohit hit the second consecutive ton against Men In Green. Notably, he had hit a century against them in the Asia Cup 2018, which India had won under his captaincy.
