World Cup: India's away kit unveiled; here's how it looks
Two-time champions India have unveiled their away kit for the ICC World Cup 2019. India would be donning this new kit for their match against England, this Sunday, as per the concept of away matches introduced by the ICC. As speculated, over the last couple of weeks, India would be using an orange colored jersey. Here is how it looks.
Orange is the new color of Men In Blue
Orange jersey inspired by India's young new generation
"Team India will debut its first-ever Away Kit in Birmingham on 30th June 2019. The ODI and Away Kit designs launched this year are inspired by the young new generation of India and the fearless spirit of the national teams," Nike said.
What is the rationale behind this away kit?
It was also reported that the ICC has introduced the concept of away kits, similar to football, so that teams, which share the same colored kits, can be differentiated. Since England and India have blue as their primary color, the latter would don the orange kit since they are the visiting team. India's tie against England would be played on June 30.
The orange color led to a controversy
This new kit has caused an uproar, as orange is also the color of India's ruling party, BJP. However, many have brushed it aside, saying it is silly, and instead of making a fuss out of it, people should enjoy the sport. "Let me tell you the design (orange) is taken from India's old T20 jersey which had orange in it," clarified an insider.
New jersey has features as well
"The new total orange and blue colored Away Kits also moves away from a traditional silhouette to using new innovative cut lines alongside dynamic material combinations to emphasize a Multi-dimensional Slash Design and Movement approach," added Nike in its statement.
India remain unbeaten in this World Cup so far
Talking about India's performance in the World Cup so far, they have been on a roll. Having played six games till now, they remain unbeaten with five wins and a draw. A win more would seal India's spot in the semis and they would look to do so against The Three Lions, who have been shaky in the past couple of matches.
