India vs Afghanistan: Records that can be scripted tonight
Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team would take on a lacklustre Afghanistan at the Rose Bowl in the match number 28 of the ICC World Cup 2019 on Saturday. Men In Blue, who are yet to be beaten in this edition of the World Cup, enter the tie as clear favorites. And before the match starts, here are the records which can be scripted tonight.
Rohit can eclipse legends Kapil and Dada's records
Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma has been in prime form. The senior cricketer (649) needs 51 runs to get past 700 World Cup runs and become the eighth Indian player to do so. He also needs 21 runs to surpass legend Kapil Dev (669). If Rohit slams a century, then he will equal former skipper Sourav Ganguly in terms of World Cup tons (4).
Rohit could join elite company if he scores a ton
Rohit has amassed two tons already in the World Cup 2019. If he scores another century today, then he will be the second Indian after Ganguly to register three tons in a single edition of the World Cup. Dada achieved the same in 2003. Besides Dada, Aussies Mark Waugh (1996) and Matthew Hayden (2007) achieved the feat in their World Cup journey.
Virat Kohli could enter top five list for India
Indian captain Virat Kohli needs just 36 runs to reach the 800-run mark in World Cup. He could be only the sixth Indian batsman to achieve this feat. Kohli needs 63 more to surpass Mohammad Azharuddin (826) and another 17 more to get past Virender Sehwag (843) in terms of career World Cup runs. He can also get past Rahul Dravid (860).
Some more individual feats that can be scripted
Kohli needs 22 more runs to reach the 800-run mark in ODIs this year (788). He will become only the fourth batsman and the second Indian to do so. Rohit needs another 125 runs to reach the 1,000-run mark in ODIs this year. Mohammed Shami (113) needs three scalps to surpass Ishant Sharma (115) in terms of career ODI wickets.
Afghanistan's Najibullah Zadran can script a special record
Afghanistan's Najibullah Zadran (236) needs 19 runs more to become the nation's highest run-scorer in the World Cup. Samiullah Shinwari (254) holds the record for Afghanistan at the moment.
