West Indies claimed a phenomenal win over England in the 2022 ICC Women's World Cup at University Oval, Dunedin. They successfully defended 225 to win the match by seven runs. How did the match pan out?
WI were off to a terrific start after electing to bat first. Openers Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews shared an 81-run stand. They were suddenly reduced to 98/4. Campbelle and Chedean Nation then shared a century stand, guiding WI to 225/6 (50). England were also tottering on 94/5 in the run-chase. Although the lower middle-order duly contributed, England fell short by seven runs eventually.

Women's WC: WI's first win against England
West Indies have beaten England for the first time in the ICC Women's World Cup. They lost to England in 1983 (by four wickets), 2009 (by 146 runs), 2013 (by six wickets), and 2017 (by 92 runs). Overall, WI won their sixth One-Day International against England (women's cricket). It was their first win against England since October 2016.
Player of the Match
West Indies wicket-keeper Campbelle was named the Player of the Match. The 29-year-old smashed 66 off 80 deliveries with the help of four boundaries. It was her second half-century in ODI cricket. Campbelle raced to 1,200 runs in the format. She now has 1,258 runs from 93 T20Is with a career-best score of 105. The tally also includes one century.
Shamilia Connell was the standout bowler
Pace spearhead Shamilia Connell was the pick of West Indies' bowlers. She picked three wickets for 38 runs in 10 overs (one maiden over). Meanwhile, Hayley Matthews and Anisa Mohammed snapped up two wickets apiece. With 72 scalps, the former surpassed Sri Lanka's CR Seneviratna in terms of ODI wickets. Meanwhile, Anisa has raced to 178 wickets in the format.
