Women's World Cup 2022: Australia beat England in high-scoring thriller
Australia are off to a winning start in the 2022 ICC Women's World Cup. They defeated England by 12 runs, having successfully defended 310. Australian opener Rachael Haynes shone with a terrific century. England middle-order batter Natalie Sciver led from the front, however, her formidable century went in vain. England were restricted to 298/8 in 50 overs. Here are the key records.
How did the match pan out?
Australia started well after England invited them to bat. Haynes held one end and got dismissed at the fag end of the innings. She shared a 196-run stand with Lanning, who smashed 86 off 110 deliveries. Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry chipped in with crucial runs as Australia managed 310/3. England couldn't get over the line despite Natalie Sciver's incredible effort.
Third WC hundred for Sciver
England batter Nat Sciver played a magnificent knock under pressure. She slammed her third century in the Women's World Cup. The middle-order batter had registered two tons in the 2017 tournament (137 vs Pakistan and 129 vs New Zealand). Overall, she scored her fourth hundred in ODI cricket. Sciver returned unbeaten on 109 off 85 deliveries. She smashed 13 fours.
