#IndiaInEngland: Woakes realizes boyhood dream after his ton at Lord's
They say dreams do come true when you work hard towards accomplishing them. And England all-rounder, Chris Woakes, has fulfilled his boyhood dream of raising his bat to a standing ovation at Lord's, cricket's most iconic ground. The all-rounder, who suffered an injury during the IPL 2018, struck a fluent unbeaten ton (120*) on Day 3 of the ongoing second Test against India.
Woakes strikes maiden Test ton at Lord's
Woakes came at the crease when England were reeling at 131/5. The promising middle-order batsman then added a 189-run stand with Jonny Bairstow (93) to take the game away from the jaded visitors, who are now on the verge of going down 0-2 in the 5-match series. Woakes struck 120 off just 159 balls, hitting 18 fours. The player slammed his maiden Test ton.
Getting a Test ton at Lord's is an incredible feeling
Woakes realized his dream after scoring his first ton at Lord's in his comeback match. An elated Woakes said in the post-match conference that, "That feeling of raising your bat to a standing ovation at Lord's is a bit of a boyhood dream. But it's an incredible feeling." He also admitted that he was quite nervous while reaching the three-mark figure.
To etch your name on Honors Board is a dream
With this century, Woakes now finds his name thrice on Honors Board at this venue. He has a five-for, ten-for and a ton at Lord's. These boards commemorate cricketers, who excel in the Test matches played at this ground. Lord's is in a space of its own and to etch your name on these boards is a dream of every cricketer.
Woakes impresses in absence of Stokes
He dismissed Virat Kohli on Day 2 and the next day he brought up a match-winning century. The player cited that filling the shoes of Ben Stokes is quite a task and he is glad it came off. He also added that getting an in-form Kohli's wicket was an achievement. Woakes is likely to play alongside Stokes in the 3rd Test.
