Sourav Ganguly reveals his wish about MS Dhoni
Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly had always been known to promote the best cricketing talent. One such player, who got the backing of Dada was Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In his autobiography, 'A century is not enough', Ganguly has written that he wished Dhoni was there in his side for the ICC 2003 World Cup.
The 'Dada' touch: Players who became stars
Ganguly, who re-shaped Indian cricket history with his aggressive captaincy, promoted several players, who eventually went on to become sensations. Here is the list: Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni.
Dhoni went on to become a star
Dada wrote that he was impressed with MSD since day one and had the belief in him to be a player who could remain steady under pressure. The rest is history as they say. Dhoni made his debut under Ganguly and from there on he went on to become India's most successful skipper. Ganguly is happy for getting the assessment of Dhoni right.
The tale during ICC 2003 WC
India played extremely well to reach the final of the ICC 2003 World Cup under Ganguly, but unfortunately they lost to eventual champions Australia. During that period, Ganguly was told about MSD, who then was a ticket collector in the Indian Railways.
