According to reports, Lara was brought to the hospital at around 12.30 PM IST on Tuesday. Medical investigations were started immediately. The report added that Lara was at an event in a nearby hotel when he complained of discomfort in his chest.

Lara, who turned 50 on May 2, 2019, went on to play 131 Tests and 299 ODIs for West Indies from 1990 to 2007. In 131 Tests, the southpaw scored 11,953 runs including 34 hundreds and 48 fifties. In 299 ODIs, Lara amassed 1,0405 runs including 19 hundreds and 63 fifties. He dominated the game alongside Sachin Tendulkar and was respected all around.
