There were mixed results on Day 2 of the Wimbledon 2018. Women's singles big names Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova were knocked out in the first round itself. Halep, Muguruza lead charge in women's singles
2018 French Open winner and world number one Simona Halep progressed to the second round after beating Japan's Nara 6-2, 6-3. Halep is eyeing 2nd Slam of her career and the win will give her immense confidence to move forward. Defending champion Garbine Muguruza got off to a solid start with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Naomi Broady.
Sharapova leads a day of upsets
5-time Slam winner Maria Sharapova faced a stunning 3-set exit in the first round. Despite winning the first set 7-6 and leading 5-2 in the 2nd, the Russian lost the plot from there on to hand a victory to qualifier Vitalia Diatchenko. Further, Petra Kvitova suffered in three sets after failing to get past Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus, who won 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

18th seed Naomi Osaka thrashed Monica Niculescu 6-4, 6-1. Belinda Bencic stunned sixth seed Caroline Garcia 7-6, 6-3. Eugenie Bouchard defeated Gabriella Taylor 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. 11th seed Angelique Kerber surged past Vera Zvonareva 7-5, 6-3. 22nd seed Britain's Johanna Konta too won her match.
Rafa, Djoker dictate 1st round matches
17-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal overcame Israel's Dudi Sela 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. Nadal, who arrived at the Wimbledon without playing any grass court tournaments, will be up against Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin in the 2nd round. Serbian Novak Djokovic enjoyed a 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 win over Tennys Sandgren. Djoker rated his performances as quite solid post the game.
Other important results in men's singles
Japanese Kei Nishikori defeated Christian Harrison 6-2, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. He was joined by Argentina powerhouse Juan Martin del Potro, who won 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 on Day 2. 15th seed Nick Kyrgios overcame Denis Istomin in a 4-set thriller. He won 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 7-3.
