Day 3 of 2018 Wimbledon brought some stunning results as the fall of big guns continued. Caroline Wozniacki became the latest casualty as she lost a three-setter. Federer marches on to third round
Men's singles defending champion Roger Federer enjoyed a routine straight sets victory over Lukas Lacko in the second round. The Swiss maestro extended his winning streak at the Wimbledon to 26 successive sets. The title favorite won the tie 6-4, 6-4, 6-1 against the world number 73. He hit 48 winners as Federer claimed that he felt good on the court.
Other crucial men's singles results
11th seed Sam Querrey progressed after beating Ukrainian Stakhovsky in a 7-6, 6-3, 6-3 duel. 13th seed Raonic won in an epic encounter against John Millman. Raonic sealed the match 7-6, 7-6, 7-6. However, as many as six matches were suspended due to rain.
Wozniacki suffers shock exit
Second seed and 2018 Australian Open winner Caroline Wozniacki was knocked out of the second round by Russian world number 35 Ekaterina Makarova. The 27-year-old lost the tie 4-6, 6-1, 5-7. Five of the top eight seeded players in women's category have already bowed out of Wimbledon. She cited that it was frustrating and felt she could have done better.
Serena, Venus progress into round 3
Seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams moved to the third round after 6-1, 6-4 win against Viktoriya Tomova. Her elder sister Venus Williams won her match, as well, after coming back to beat Romanian qualifier Alexandra Dulgheru 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. Victoria Azarenka suffered an exit at the hands of 7th seed Karolina Pliskova, who won 6-3, 6-3. 10th seed Madison Keys progressed easily.
