Paul Adams questions Kane Williamson's ethics: Know why
Former South African cricketer Paul Adams took to social media to question New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson's ethics. He was referring to an incident, which happened during the ICC World Cup 2019 match between the Kiwis and South Africa on Wednesday. Williamson went on to smash an unbeaten century against SA to guide his side home. Here's what happened.
What happened during the match?
Williamson had actually nicked a ball by Proteas spinner Imran Tahir. Replays showed that the NZ skipper, who tried to steer the ball to the third man area, was actually out as the ball appeared to have taken a faint edge to keeper Quinton de Kock. But the South Africans didn't appeal and Williamson survived. Paul slammed Williamson on Twitter for his questionable behavior.
Why didn't Kane walk?
Another question for Kane?
Why didn't South African players appeal?
Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis was asked about the team's decision not to appeal after the edge. The senior cricketer said that the Proteas weren't aware of the ball hitting the edge. "We weren't aware of it. I think I was at long on at the time, and Quinny is the closest to the action. He's always my go to man," said Faf.
Did Kane know about it? Faf clarifies
"I thought it was a plain miss. I just heard about it now at the post match that he had a nick on it. But even Kane said he didn't know he had to fine tune it. He would have referred it," added Faf.
What could be the actual scenario?
It was the slightest of edge which foxed someone like Quinton de Kock. Action on the field is way different to that of television replays. If South Africa would have appealed and taken a review, then the decision could have gone their way. Whereas, if Kane didn't know about it, he too would have reviewed if given dismissed by the on-field umpire.
Paul Adams makes the wrong call here
Blaming Williamson for not having ethics is wrong on Paul's part. Kane is one of the greatest ambassadors of modern day cricket. He is respected by the fraternity. Perhaps, Adams spoke out of emotions here as South Africa lost the encounter.
How do these two teams stand?
New Zealand are currently top of the 10-team table in the 2019 World Cup. They won their fourth match of the tourney on Wednesday. The Black Caps are almost certain to qualify for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, South Africa suffered a big blow as their campaign looks virtually over at the moment. South Africa would meet Pakistan next.
