IPL 2025: KL Rahul's participation in DC's opener uncertain
What's the story
Delhi Capitals (DC) will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
However, star player KL Rahul's participation remains uncertain.
The team's captain Axar Patel said they don't know if Rahul will play in the opening match.
The cricketer is expecting his first child with wife Athiya Shetty, which could affect his availability for the season's initial games.
Statement
No confirmation on Rahul's availability
"Obviously, he joined the team and we all know that he has a personal problem," Axar in the pre-match press conference on Sunday.
"So, we don't know yet. So, if he comes back, we ask him if he is okay and we'll let you know tomorrow morning. I think we've got to know and so, now we don't know if he is available or not."
Captaincy style
Axar Patel's approach to captaincy
Axar, who has been named DC's skipper following the departure of Rishabh Pant, shared his philosophy of captaincy: simplicity and execution.
He said, "As a captain, I have told the group that cricket is just a game—keep it simple."
He added that he doesn't want to complicate things and wants his players to focus on keeping it simple throughout the tournament.
Team spirit
Axar Patel's vision for DC
Further, Patel spoke about his vision for the team, saying all players are keen to do something special for the franchise.
He highlighted their mindset of expressing themselves and playing fearlessly.
"Everyone is committed to giving their 100%, and the players truly enjoy the atmosphere within the DC family," he added, emphasizing on the strong camaraderie among the players.
Rule changes
Axar Patel supports IPL rule changes
Patel also backed IPL authorities' decision to lift the ban on saliva usage on the ball.
He feels this will help bowlers in an era dominated by batting.
"For me, cricket has always been about the battle between bat and ball, but the balance has tilted heavily in favor of the batters in recent times," he said.
