Julen Lopetegui to be sacked by Real Madrid soon: Reports
After Zinedine Zidane suddenly ended his tenure as Real Madrid manager, Los Blancos hired Julen Lopetegui, then coach of Spain as their new gaffer. However, Julen has not been able to replicate Zizou's success, starting his Real Madrid stint with a loss against city-based rivals Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup. Now, as per reports, he might be sacked by Los Blancos soon.
Real achieved a new low under Lopetegui
Real achieved an unwanted record under Julen- they spent 481 minutes under him without netting in a single goal, the longest goal-drought in Real Madrid's 116-year history. Marcelo ended the goal-less period when he netted in a goal against Levante in their 1-2 loss. The rumor mills state the manager will be shown the door before the Champions League match on October 24.
Real have won 5 out of 12 matches under him
Real Madrid have managed just five wins under Julen, out of the 12 matches they have played. Los Blancos suffered three successive losses against Moscow, Alaves, and Levante respectively. Real Madrid are currently seventh on the league table, with four wins, two draws, and three losses. Their eternal rivals, Barcelona top the table with four points separating the two teams.
Who can replace Julen Lopetegui?
Antonio Conte, who has been without a job since leaving Chelsea, is being considered as a possible replacement, if Julen is sacked. However, Marca has reported that Real Madrid Castilla manager Santiago Solari has the highest chance of taking up the senior team's role. Roberto Martinez and Laurent Blanc are the other two options being considered by the authorities of Los Blancos.
