Major League Cricket eyes England's James Anderson for upcoming season
James Anderson, the highest wicket-taker in Tests among pacers, has emerged as a potential recruit for the USA's Major League Cricket (MLC). According to BBC Sport, senior officials from an MLC team have expressed interest in Anderson following his recent remarks about a possible return to white-ball cricket. It remains to be seen if the 42-year-old will take part in the third edition of the T20 tournament next year. Notably, Anderson last played a professional T20 game in 2014.
Potential earnings; MLC's star-studded roster
Anderson could potentially earn around £135,000 from a brief stint in the MLC. The 2024 edition of the tournament attracted several high-profile cricketers, including Australia's Pat Cummins. The Australian Test skipper has a lucrative contract with the San Francisco Unicorns until 2027. Moreover, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Travis Head have featured for the Washington Freedom team that won this year's tournament.
Post-retirement role and future plans
After retiring from international cricket in July, Anderson joined the England backroom team. He still has on a central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) until September end. Despite his last competitive T20 match being in 2014 for Lancashire, Anderson has expressed confidence in his fitness and skills to play the format again.
