Will Jacks hammers second-fastest IPL hundred for RCB: Stats
Will Jacks starred with a historic hundred as Royal Challengers Bengaluru thrashed Gujarat Titans by nine wickets in Match 45 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). He scored an unbeaten 100 off 41 balls as RCB chased down 201 in just 16 overs. Jacks, who hammered five boundaries and 10 sixes, slammed the second-fastest ton for RCB. Here are the key stats.
A sensational knock from Jacks
Jacks joined opener Virat Kohli (70*) in the middle after Faf du Plessis (24) departed early. The Englishman played the second-fiddle in the partnership early on before going absolutely berserk. While he took 30 deliveries to complete his fifty, his next 50 runs came off just 10 balls. He smashed the talismanic Rashid Khan for four sixes and a boundary in the 16th over.
Fifth-quickest IPL ton
Jacks, who completed his ton off 41 balls, slammed the second-fastest ton for RCB. He is only behind Chris Gayle, who reached the milestone off 30 balls against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2013. Meanwhile, Yusuf Pathan (37 balls), David Miller (38 balls), and Travis Head (39 balls) are the only other batters with quicker IPL tons than Jacks.
Other records scripted by Jacks
Jacks took the fewest balls to go from 50 to 100 in IPL (10). The previous fewest were 13 balls by Gayle against PWI in 2013. Jacks hammered the most runs in an over off Rashid in IPL (28). The Englishman's tally of 10 sixes is the second-most for a RCB non-opener in an IPL innings. Only AB de Villiers (12 sixes) is ahead.
Here are his IPL numbers
Playing his maiden IPL season, Jacks has raced to 176 runs across five games at a strike rate of 191.30. This was his second fifty-plus score. In T20 cricket, the batter now tallies 4306 runs in 162 games at a 30-plus average. His strike rate is over 158 as the tally now includes four tons besides 31 fifties.
How did the game pan out?
GT openers Wriddhiman Saha (5) and Shubman Gill (16) departed early before Sai Sudharsan (84*) and Shahrukh Khan (58) rescued them with an 86-run stand. The Titans finished at 200/3 in their 20 overs. In reply, du Plessis departed early for RCB. However, Jacks and Kohli's unbeaten 160-run partnership meant RCB crossed the line without any hassle.
