David de Gea's camp believes he would sign contract extension
Earlier, it was being reported that United goal-keeper David de Gea is reluctant to sign a contract extension with the Red Devils. This is because he believes United won't be able to win the top prizes in near-future. However, it has now emerged that the Spanish custodian might change his tough stance. He, recently, said he was really happy to be at United.
Why did his transfer to Real Madrid fall through?
Interestingly, David's transfer to Real Madrid was agreed upon in 2015, but a technical glitch saw the deal fall through. On the last day of the transfer window, United, due to a problem with the fax machine, could not get the necessary documents to Spanish Football Federation Headquarters before the deadline. Wasting no time, United extended the contract of the Spanish international.
David de Gea's tryst with United: Achievements
After joining Manchester United from Atletico for a fee of £18.9 million, David de Gea has made over 300 appearances for them. He has been consistent, winning three consecutive and overall four Sir Matt Busby Player of The Year awards, the first one to do so ever. He has won a Premier League, an FA Cup, three FA Community Shields, and a Europa League.
David de Gea has been the saving grace
David de Gea is widely regarded as one of the best goal-keepers right now, and he has been United's only saving grace. With United's defense being poor, the Spanish international has been making miraculous saves, which salvaged many games for the club. It is believed that United ended up second last season mainly due to David's prowess.
David de Gea's comments when asked about contract extension
"I feel loved at his club from all the people who are for this club...I am really happy to play for this club, one of best clubs in the world, so for me really good to be part of this club," he said.
