WI players will be available for IPL 2022: Details here
All West Indies players will available for the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed the development on Monday. The news comes a day after the conclusion of the IPL 2022 mega auction. As many as 17 players will take part in the tournament, expected to take place between March and May. Here are further details.
Why does this story matter?
A total of 14 West Indian players were picked by the franchises in the IPL 2022 Auction on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, three players - Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians), Sunil Narine and Andre Russell (Kolkata Knight Riders) have been retained. As per Cricbuzz, the combined value of West Indies players in the IPL 2022 has gone over Rs. 81 crore.
Here is what CWI said in a statement
"The CWI has allocated a window for the tournament each year in their ICC FTP and also guaranteed this to the players in their retainer contracts, therefore West Indies players are fully available to participate in the IPL each year. The IPL 2022 is slated to be played in April and May," CWI said in a statement on Monday.
CWI boss congratulates all players
"I want to congratulate all of the West Indies players who have secured contracts to the various franchises in the IPL, which is the biggest and most lucrative global T20 franchise tournament. But I especially want to applaud those younger players who received their first full IPL contracts. This shows great faith in emerging West Indies talent," CWI boss Ricky Skerritt said.
