Wanted a young captain for Pune Supergiants: Sanjiv Goenka
Defending his decision of removing MS Dhoni as captain of Rising Pune Supergiants, team owner Sanjiv Goenka said that they wanted someone young and fit as the leader of the team. He also said, "Steve Smith has actually done a good job as captain of Australia. He has been captaining for last 20 months or maybe slightly more."
MS Dhoni sacked as Rising Pune Supergiants' captain
Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was sacked as the captain of Indian Premier League team Rising Pune Supergiants by the team management. He was replaced by Australia's Steve Smith. RPS, which made their IPL debut last year, won only five of their 14 matches. However, Dhoni had led the suspended IPL team Chennai Super Kings to title victory in 2010 and 2011.
Sanjiv Goenka opens up about Dhoni's removal as captain
Rising Pune Supergiants' co-owner Sanjiv Goenka opened up about the decision of sacking Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the captain of the Pune based team. He gave various reasons as he spoke to a Bengali daily Sangbad Pratidin.
Dhoni's behaviour angered Goenka
Reportedly, Dhoni was not present at many important team meetings and was also not available on phone. Dhoni also skipped many net sessions; which he is he was not able to observe how the young players were performing. According to a senior bowler of the team, Dhoni also changed field settings discussed in bowlers' meeting as the skipper was not present at those meetings.
Dhoni was informed what was going to happen
According to Sanjiv Goenka, when Dhoni met him in January, he was told what was going to happen. On the decision, Dhoni said, "You can do what you feel is right. This is your decision and I am ready to serve as a normal player."
