The reasons why Jose Mourinho's tactics are not yielding results
Both Jose Mourinho and Manchester United are synonymous with winning, and when they finally came together, fans were hoping for world domination. However, fate has had the last laugh, with United in shambles, and Mourinho's midas touch evaporated. The man, who made Porto win the Champions League, is struggling to make 13-times EPL champions win against West Ham. Here're the reasons behind the downfall.
Mourinho should start playing three solid center-backs
Mourinho's defense during his successful time at Chelsea comprised of three solid center-backs. This is what he should adopt at Manchester United to avoid conceding goals in every match. Mourinho should have been given the proper center-back he had asked for during the summer transfer window. Bailly and Lindelof are either lacking in confidence or are not good enough for United.
Mourinho's methods are undermining his best players
Mourinho's tactics are not bringing the best out of his players like Pogba and Sanchez. He has strictly restricted his defenders from playing first-station passes (passing from defense to central mid-field), thus restricting them to either play long balls or attack as fullbacks. This self-imposed restriction does not let Pogba distribute the ball, and also makes United's defense unnecessarily vulnerable.
Mourinho is not using the players properly
Anthony Martial has always been a player with great potential and what Mourinho has done is let him warm the bench match after match. Mourinho always preferred a strong right-footed winger as he did at Real Madrid (Ronaldo) and Chelsea (Hazard), and this position would have suited Martial perfectly. He is also benching talented players and getting into unnecessary quarrels with them.
United should have one proper central attacking mid-fielder
It has become clear that the strategy of using fullbacks is not working in United's favor, and what they should do instead is bring in a solid center-attacking mid-fielder who will take the attacking responsibilities on his shoulders. Pogba and Matic are not that great at attacking, and someone like a Luka Modric or a James Rodriguez would have done the trick for United.
