Rohan Jaitley could succeed Jay Shah as BCCI Secretary: Report
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president, Rohan Jaitley, is reportedly the front-runner to become the next secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This development comes amid speculation about current BCCI Secretary Jay Shah's potential nomination for the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman position. Shah is believed to have the backing of 16 out of 15 members in the ICC board, making his election seem almost certain.
Other potential candidates for BCCI secretary role
According to Dainik Bhaskar, several other names have emerged as potential successors to Shah, including Rajeev Shukla, Ashish Shelar, Arun Dhumal, and Rohan Jaitley. Shukla is currently serving as the vice-president of BCCI and a Congress MP in the Rajya Sabha. On the other hand, Shelar is a prominent figure in Maharashtra BJP and the current treasurer of BCCI. Dhumal brings his experience as the former treasurer and current head of IPL to the table.
BCCI may consider role reshuffle
There's a possibility that the BCCI might consider a reshuffle of roles. Shukla could be considered for the secretary position for a year, a move he would likely welcome given the limited influence of his current vice-president role. Meanwhile, Shelar's political stature and key role in MCA administration make him a viable candidate for secretaryship, despite the time-consuming nature of this position.
Dhumal's experience and Jaitley's consensus
Dhumal, with his experience as a former treasurer and current head of the cash-rich league, is also a strong candidate. A straightforward solution might involve Dhumal and Shukla swapping roles. However, according to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, there's a consensus over current DDCA president Rohan Jaitley's name for the secretary post. Other top BCCI officials including current president Roger Binny among others will continue into their roles since they have another year remaining in their respective terms.
Shah's decision and ICC chairman election process
It remains unclear whether Shah is interested in becoming the next ICC chairman as he has not yet filed his nomination. The deadline for nominations is August 27. The outgoing ICC chairman Greg Barclay recently confirmed he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the post when his current tenure finishes at the end of November.
