Will Bengaluru FC win their maiden ISL title?
After close to 5 months of non-stop action, the Indian Super League champion will be crowned tonight. Debutants Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC will battle it out in the final at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Bengaluru have impressed everyone in their maiden campaign and are unbeaten in their last 10 games, but who would win the title? We analyse.
Bengaluru favourites in this contest between neighbours
Bengaluru and Chennai have been the two top sides in the ISL and it came as no surprise that they reached this year's final. The two sides have faced each other twice in the tournament so far and both outfits have won one fixture each. Despite an equal record, Bengaluru's red-hot form gives them a slight edge over their opponents.
Sunil Chhetri is on song for Bengaluru
Bengaluru outclassed Pune City in the semi-final while Chennai sent Virat Kohli's FC Goa packing. Chennai will be wary of Bengaluru skipper Sunil Chhetri, who scored a mind-blowing hat-trick at home against FC Pune City in the second leg of the semi-final. Also, the home crowd of Bengaluru should give them a slender advantage.
Can Chennaiyin dig deep to upset experienced Bengaluru?
Bengaluru might be competing in their maiden ISL campaign but they are quite an experienced side. The Blues have won the I-league twice and have also lifted the prestigious Federation Cup. As for Chennaiyin FC, they have lifted the prestigious ISL trophy once during the second edition of the tournament.
