Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki is expected to be a top target this offseason, with MLB teams eagerly awaiting his potential posting. Known as one of the most exciting international pitching prospects, Sasaki's posting status will be determined by his Japanese club, which is reportedly leaning toward posting him. If posted, Sasaki will likely attract intense interest. We present his top three MLB landing spots.
Sasaki's Japanese league numbers
Sasaki, drafted by Chiba Lotte Marines, he debuted in 2021, finishing with a 3-2 record and a 2.27 ERA. In 2022, he pitched a perfect game with 19 strikeouts and set a world record with 13 consecutive strikeouts. Later, he set an NPB record by retiring 52 batters consecutively. Sasaki matched Ohtani's 102.5 mph pitch speed (2023), making him a top prospect this off-season.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers are likely the most favorable contenders for Sasaki, given their location advantage and star power with Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Their reputation, backed by their 2024 World Series title, could be very persuasive. Although they have a $5.925 million bonus cap like the New York Mets, they're not pursuing other prospects, which may eventually strengthen their offer.
New York Yankees
Yankees GM Brian Cashman has been reportedly monitoring Sasaki closely, seeing him as a potential fit for their rotation, which lacks a dominant pitcher outside of Gerrit Cole. With over $6 million in their bonus pool, the Yankees may go all-in on signing the ace to bolster their roster. They would come out as a strong contender to the Dodgers given their WS defeat.
New York Mets
The Mets, who were strong contenders for Yamamoto, are likely to strongly pursue Sasaki as well. With substantial funds and owner Steve Cohen's willingness to invest in top talent, they could make a strong bid. However, their 2025 international bonus pool is only around $5 million, which may challenge their ability to sign Sasaki while also targeting other prospects especially free agent Juan Soto.
