Five most astounding Premier League records
The Premier League is in full swing as every week we see our favorite teams battling out with each other to come out on top at the end of the season. Records are scripted and broken every game, and history is rewritten on the football pitch every night. Here are some Premier League records which are plain bizarre or astounding.
Alan Shearer's penalty records
We all know that Alan Shearer is the Premier League's all-time highest goal-scorer, having netted in 260 goals in the competition. However, his goal-scoring record does not only stop here. Shearer is also the one who has both missed (11) and scored (56) the highest number of EPL penalties. Shearer was a Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers player during his career.
Mario Balotelli's only assist was quite decisive
Mario Balotelli has always been a controversial personality, he is known to upset people with his antics. Balotelli was a Manchester City player during 2010-13. His only ever assist in the EPL was the one he provided to Sergio Aguero, which helped City snatch away the league victory on the very last day of the season from their neighbors, Manchester United, on goal difference.
Bale, Rooney, and Kevin Davies have scripted a unique record
Gareth Bale, Wayne Rooney, and Kevin Davies have a unique record to their name, which only shows that anything is possible in the Premier League. All three of these players are the only ones who have scored, assisted, and then scored an own goal in the same Premier League match. Rooney and Le Tissier are also the only two to score hat-tricks from set-pieces.
From the top to the bottom in a year
There have only been three such clubs in Premier League history, which have gone to the top of the league table and were ultimately relegated by the end of the season. Hull City managed this bizarre feat in 2016-17, Bolton Wanderers did so in 2011-12, and Charlton achieved the feat in 1998-99. Must have been painful to be relegated after you've tasted the table-top.
Heads are also quite useful, ask these EPL players
Duncan Ferguson and Salomon Rondon are the only two Premier League players who have scored hat-tricks with headers only. Ferguson did so in 1997, and Rondon in 2016. Peter Crouch has scored an unbelievable 50 goals from headers, and this is more than what 15 Premier League teams scored in their history.
